The Scottsdale City Council approved a study for alternative and bike lanes through a grant with the Maricopa Association of Governments.
The study will look at the western portion of the 1.8-mile 2nd Street neighborhood bikeway through Old Town that connects Indian Bend Wash Path and Arizona Canal Path. It will also look at a 0.8-mile alternative path on 2nd Street from Goldwater to the Arizona Canal Path.
MAG will pay for all but about $6,000 of the more than $86,000 study.
Some city council members expressed concerns with lanes taking away parking spots and bringing more bikes and foot traffic to neighborhood. Other members said the study will bring more information to those potential issues.
The study also will look at a potential hybrid-crossing at 2nd Street and Indian School.
